in my iphone general settings does not have the software update option
iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.1
That function is only available if the phone is upgraded to iOS 5.

i want upgraded to ios 5 so ,i need that option because my laptop take 10 hours to update ios 5 and give some error also
You can not do an "Over the air upgrade" until you have upgraded to iOS 5. What is the error when attempting to upgrade using the computer?

there was a problem downloading the software for the iphone .the network connection timed out.
make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active. or try again later
Temporarily disable or turn off all your firewall and anti-virus software and try the download again.

again the error has come with the error code -3529 .what can i do? i turn off the anti virus software as u told................
Did you also disable the firewall at the same time? I haven't used Windows computers for a few years, so not sure of all possible settings, but the link below may help.
