iphone 4s not ringing

Have you checked the Mute/Silent Switch on the side...

Are you sure that the small switch on the side of the phone is set to the correct position? This is a common thing that most people miss (not offending you or anything, it's just easy to miss). If I'm not mistaken, there should be no orange showing on that switch and a symbol of a church bell should appear (with no slash through it) when you slide it to the correct position.

IPhone does not ring when locked.

Resolved as below:

I had this problem for ages, Setting Do Not Disturb to Off only does not work alone. You need to do All 4 steps below.

1. You need to check as you did, in the Sounds settings that you have set the 'Vibrate on Ring' is Off. 


2. The Do Not Disturb settings Manual, Scheduled, Repeated Calls are Off. And 'Allow Calls From ' set to Everyone.

3. Check you have set the Mute to Off.

4. Finally, Backup phone onto iCloud to save settings incase you want to rebuild phone.


IF you do use the physical switch to Mute the phone will vibrate silently when phone is called, as it should do.

IF you want to set number of seconds before it goes to voicemail then you can do the following. I found 20 seconds is about 7 rings.


On phone do a call on number pad, this is actually instructions sent for free.

*#61#. (star hash 61 hash)

shows call forwarding info

To set to 20 seconds before going to voicemail

*#61*121*11*20#


121 is phone to forward to voicemail
