ac_runactivecontent.js

A friend of mine ran across a web site that froze Safari with an error saying that an application called ac_runactivecontent.js needed to be installed. He said there was no option to cancel or close the dialog box. It has frozen Safari for hours. Even if he quits Safari, when he reopens it the web page is still trying to load. Is there any way for him to get Safari out of this freeze, and what caused the problem in the first place?
