MacBook air will not power up and showing total black screen and dead keyboard

Press and release the power button and immediately hold down the Command, Option, P, and R keys simultaneously until you hear the startup sound a second time. This resets the parameter RAM (PRAM).

Unfortunately, if the computer in your situation is not helped by a PRAM reset, and it is otherwie dead, it will require a technical remedy of greater complexity than can be ordinarily done by a user. If you are within practical distance of a n Apples Store's Genius Bar, you should proceed with an appointment there.

I had this same issue but after a new hard drive/ram install.

What solved the issue - and I hope this helps someone else who has the same problem:

1). Install new hard drive (with or without osx pre installed) or leave old one in in your case.

2). Remove all ram

3). Power on and wait 1 minute

4). Hold power button until it turns off

5). Install ram

6). Power back on

7). BOOM! It works again.

My 4 month old Macbook Air's screen is dead! When I try to power it on it makes the apple sound and the keyboard backlight comes on and the display lights come on but the actual display is total black. What can I do other than the other comments posted, which haven't worked for me?

When you have a power dark Mac with a green charging light, you essentially have a couple of choices remaining:

1. Reset the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Schedule time at the Apple Retail Store, or Authorized Service Center to have your Mac evaluated for hardware issues.
