tap app icons nothing happens

just recently when i ttouch an app icon nothing happens... i tried a reset by hold the power button down, but that did not work. any suggestions?

iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1

A reset actually requires you to hold the Home button and the Sleep/On/Off button at the same time for approximately 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo reappears.

For a reset you need to hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignoring the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear.
