I'm looking forward to buy a new microphone for my Mac and wanted to know if the microphone of the Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 headset was compatible. I'm running OS X 10.7.

It's not meant for a Mac. Some people have gotten some features running, but since it runs through the USB drive, and it's a non standard device (say like a hard drive or something), it requires drivers.
Since the MBP's audio output is a combination line out/mic in, buy an iPhone compatible headset, that won't require setup, wasting a USB port, or adding to the overhead on system resources. If you have an old iPhone headset that you're not using, it should work. I use these Klipsch, but then again, you might want to go cheaper, like $29 for the iPhone version. 🙂
I had problems making microphone work properly on MacBook Pro Mid-2009 running El Capitan (it had crackling noise that become worse and worse with recording time). What fixed it for me is changing the sampling rate in Audio MIDI Setup for microphone to 44100 Hz instead of 48000 Hz which was default on my system.
It seems that this only slowed down the problem from appearing. Now the cracking sound (from microphone) starts appearing after several minutes, not seconds as before.
Is the microphone compatible with Mac ?
