iMac display calibration?

When I try to print my photos from my fairly new iMac to my Canon PIXMA iP5200, they look nothing like what I see on my display. The colors and contrast are WAY off. My iMac is not even 6 months old so I can't imagine I would need to calibrate it already other than the calibration in the display system prefs. I did download the print drivers from Canon for Lion but I'm not sure how to make sure the previous drivers are gone. My Canon PIXMA is a couple of years old but still works, at least I thought it did. I would really like my prints to look like what I see on my display or at least close. I'm sure there are a hundred ways to troubleshoot this but just hoping someone out there has heard of this problem and can give me some advice.

Thanks in advance,

Susan
