In Mail, Why can't I see the "To:" field in my inbox column anymore?

I have multiple inboxes and need to see who the email is being sent to for instance if it goes into my spam folder. The center column just shows who the email is from and when it came in, in SL, you could see the "to" field as well. I can't find a way to make that visible without having to click on the email and show all fields in the far right column. I want to be able to scan the center column to know how to sort the mail that ends up in spam.

Well, the Spam Folder (Junk) should have a subfolder for each different account. If account 2 gets a junk message, it will put it to the subfolder under Junk of that account. When you click on the Junk Mailbox, the messages will show the account the messages were sent to (if you are showing mailbox in the list). That's about the same as looking at the to field in that instance. For that matter, you can just select the individual account folder.

Thanks for the quick response! What if I don't want to use the classic view. I like the new look, but only need to get the To field back in the message column. I tried to check the "Show To/Cc label in the message list" without classic view enabled, but that only made the word "To" appear next to the subject line without showing the recipient.

If it's in the Spam mailbox, then Spam Mailbox would show there.

In my example above, I'm looking in the Sent Mailbox as a whole (main mailbox, not the subfolder account) and it's showing the account I sent from. If I had sent messages from my other accounts, it would show those also. The only purpose of showing the mailbox in the message list is to know which of your accounts it's to or from when you have multiple accounts. If you only have one mail account, then it provides no use to have Mailbox shown in the message list.

When you are looking at the Sent Mail, then the message list shows the person who it was sent to.

All other mailboxes show the person who the message was sent from in the list.

Unless you're moving recieved mail and sent mail to a common mailbox, then it's not a big deal.

Maybe Apple will change it in the future to show the actual Fields in the message list.

No, I understand that. The initial point of the request was that I have multiple accounts on my mail app. (Some of these accounts are not me or my name) My mail has a tendency to put good emails into the spam folder, when this happens I want to be able to just scan the messages list using the "to" field so that I can place the emails into the correct inboxes without having to open up each individual email to see who's it is.

I can live with it, I was just looking to see if someone had a solutions I was missing. I appreciate your help in trying to get this worked out.

I'd like to pick up on the overall topic here. I use mail.app with various accounts and I set up On My Mac-mailboxes to sort mails by task. These mailboxes contain mails from and to various senders and addressees. As this discussion made clear, the short info in the center column does show the sender, however, it doesn't display the addressee. In a case like mine, this makes the new mail.app layout almost unusable. (To organize by conversation isn't an option, either. It only shows whoever happens to have started the discussion.) Presently, using the classic layout seems to be the only solution. But is there realy no other way? Something we miss? It seems so unplausible. Why should we not want to quickly find mails that went to a certain addressee?

Thanks

Well from what I see, that's the only option. The only mailbox that will show the addressee (sent to) is the Sent Mailbox. All others will only show the sender.

If you really need to see that, then you will probably be happier in Classic View.

Or, try the search feature when looking for a specific person. That will find all email to them no matter what folder they are in.

Someone else may have a better solution.
