How do I delete tv shows under my ipad when connected to Itunes?

Under my ipad symbol on the left side of itunes and in tv shows area, it shows some old free TV shoes that I downloaded, watched and deleted. They all have the icon in front of them that looks like the icon when it is syncing but the shows are greyed out and I cannot click on them and delete them. I have downloaded the shows again and then deleted them but they still show up in itunes. I have also reinstalled itunes to see if that would help. No luck...any help would be great. Thanks.

You need to remove them from iTunes on your computer or they will continue to sync to the iPad - unless of course you deselect them to sync. Removing them from iTunes removes them permanently - or at least until you download them again.

Launch iTunes on your computer. Click on the TV Shows under the Library heading in the upper left side of the iTunes window. Click on the TV show icon or the name of the show in list view that you want to delete - and the go to Edit>Delete from the menu at the top of the screen. iTunes will ask you if you want to delete it and will warn you that it will be removed from your device when you sync - so answer the questions - and then you can delete the shows.

You can also right click on the TV show icon or right click on the name in the list view and select delete from the pop up that way.

Hi Demo,

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I have already tried that and there are no tv shows showing anymore in my itunes under the library. Where I am having trouble getting them to come off is under devices->ipad->TV Shows

Under there are a few TV shows listed that are no longer on my ipad either....they show up as grey lines with the icon that looks like it is syncing in front of each one (although the icon is not spinning like it was syncing). You can't get them to delete, play, etc. I was hoping someone would know how to get them to delete? Any ideas, let me know.

Thanks again.

You have another post going on about this topic - don't you? Maybe I'm getting a little confused now.

Did you restart your iPad and then look to see if those shows are still appearing under the TV shows heading on the iPad? You are seeing this when your iPad is connected to iTunes correct? You can't remove anything from that area of the iPad - all content that you would click on in there is always greyed out. If they are no longer on the iPad - maybe a restart will remove them.

Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Hi Demo,

Yes, I placed it in 2 forums hoping to find the answer. In the other forum, you shared with me how to delete the shows if they were showing up on the ipad. But they are not.

I have also tried to restart the ipad to no avail.

They do not show up on my ipad and they do not show up in the library of itunes. They just show up under the device section on the left hand side of itunes. Under the device->TV Shows.

They are listed there and I don't know how to delete them. It almost looks like some glitch somewhere because you can't right click and delete, you can't uncheck, etc. And they have the weird icon and the front of each TV show title. Hopefully this pic from itunes on my computer will come out clear enough for you to see. Each of these lines is something I have been unable to delete. Thanks again.

I just want to make sure that I fully understand (BTW - the screen shot is fine - I can see it) - you are seeing these shows when you open the iPad by clicking on the down arrow on the left side of your iPad's name - and then clicking on the TV shows heading while your iPad is connected to iTunes. Is that correct?

If that is the case - you can't right click to delete or select anything in the iTunes window on the right side - that is on the iPad. That content will always be greyed out and inaccessible to you. That should be content that is on the iPad and it shows up in iTunes greyed out. If you want to add or remove content from the device you would do that by syncing or unsyncing.

I realize that you know all of that - I'm just sort of thinking out loud - so to speak. If those shows have been removed from the iTunes Library - and deleted from the iPad - the only other thing that I can think of is to sync the iPad again - and then see if those shows have disappeared. The syncing icons on the left almost make it look like the shows are stuck between a sync and an unsync - if that makes any sense to you.

Hi Demo,

Yes, you understand what I am seeing.

I did try the syncing and it didn't change anything. The reason I brought up the icon issue is that I thought they were normally blue dots that showed whether a show has been watched or not (or sometimes it is in the middle of being watched) just like under the movie heading.

It seems to me to be a glitch somewhere or something happened at some point in time. I just don't know how to fix it. Normally shows (and movies) disappear off the ipad and out of that part of itunes when you delete them. For some reason, these 7 shows did not. Feel free to think out loud...maybe eventually we will figure it out. :-)

Thanks again for trying. See you are a Steelers fan....good luck on Sunday.

It does seem like a glitch. If the shows are not on the iPad and not in iTunes - it's like they are stuck in the iPad's memory somehow. Did you try the old, reliable, "works for so many other issues" iPad reset and see if that helped? Sometimes it can clear the "cobwebs" out of the device.

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

I'm sorry but I am now at a loss. If you had restrictions enabled on the iPad, you would not have been able to delete the TV shows - at least I think you couldn't have done so. I know that you couldn't delete apps if restrictions were on.

If the shows are not taking up any storage capacity - which I think was your concern initially, hopefully these icons and the list of shows will eventually disappear.

Maybe someone else will chime in with an answer for you.
