So I downloaded a free mixtape from the weeknd and now I'm trying to move them from my pc to itunes so I can listen to them on my iphone. There are 3 mixtapes. I managed to move one of them onto itunes and conversely to my phone lol. I have no clue how I did it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know this is a total noob question but I am what I am.

In iTunes, File > Add to Library navigate to the mp3 and add it to iTunes. When you have done both of them sync your iPhone.

Hi - I had the same problem and I did what you suggested but when I looked at the music list on my iPhone 4s all the song titles are shaded and can't be played. When I did the transfer I got several error messages saying certain songs couldn't be transferred because of -5000 error. I REALLY miss being able to listen to music when I walk the dog!!
So you had a mixtape that was an mp3 and couldn't add it to iTunes on your computer?
Hi Deggie - No I had purchased iTunes songs and some CD music on my iPhone 3 and I updated this week to a 4s and the seller told me to back up my 3 and then do a restore to the 4S. Unfortunately none of my books came across and the music is listed in shaded form but it can't be played
So you don't have the same problem as the OP at all.
Check Settings > Store > Apple ID and make sure it is the same one as your computer account.
Connect the iPhone again, click on the name, move to the tabs to the right and make sure you select what items (such as Books) that you want to sync.
Thanks Deggie I tried that but I'm afraid that it didn't work. I have tried several times and get messages like "Attempting to copy to the disk""failed. You do not have enough access privileges" Soemtimes I get a message about device driver software not being installed. Other times it's a mesage about an -5000 error.

That is an issue with the permissions on your hard disk, and given all your error messages it sounds like you need to do some cleanup on your computer.
First install either ipod Agent on PC, this will run a small server program to transfer music from PC to iPhone.
Connect mobile to pc via usb and create a folder called Music on sd card or phone storage, using usb storage method in wireless connections, not using Kies default. Right-click on iTunes Agent icon in system tray and choose preferemces. Click the Choose button and select the Music folder you created on thecomputer Finally, right-click on the iTunes Agent icon in the system tray and select Synchronize devices to sync Music to your computer. Simple way. Drag MP3s to the iPhone, iTunes convert them to AAC even if you don't check the option to convert to 128 bit rate AAC.
