Can I delete the recovered message mailbox?

I recently had the "endless recovered message" problem which I fixed by the solutions offered here.

However, it gives me cause to wonder about a couple of things.

-One, what does that mailbox do? I didn't make it.

-Also, can I delete it? Since my problem is solved, I wary of messing with it. OTOH, it takes up space on the list of mailboxes...

Highlight (select) the mailbox, go to the 'mailbox' menu and see if the 'delete mailbox' option is live. If it is, just delete it.

If Mail requires it at some future time it'll recreate it.

If the 'delete' option is greyed out, you're stuck with it!
