how to turn on Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)

bought a new surveillance camera network dvr and directions say you should turn on UPNP on your router before turning on UPNP on dvr. I've looked on the Airport Extreme setup by opening the Airport>APUtil (utility) >base station > manual setup > internet... i do not see anything that shows UPNP... I am assuming this is allready turned on since my other 2 computers are connected to this router. Is it?

Apple's routers do not use UPnP.

They do offer a similar type of feature, which is called NAT-PMP, or NAT Port Mapping Protocol

Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup

Click the Internet icon

Click the NAT tab below the icons

Insure that there is a check mark next to Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol

Click the Configure Port Mappings button if you need to specify specific ports to use and set them up on the next window that appears

I have ver 6.3.2 of AirPort Utility. Here's how you can "Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol"

Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility

When AirPort Utility opens, click your AirPort Extreme. A little side window will pop-up. Click the "Edit" button at the bottom.

Click the "Network" tab. Toward the bottom, click the "Network Options..." button. Check the box for "Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol". Hit the "Save" button on that window. Then, hit the "Update" button on the next window.

That should have you covered.
