iPod touch memory screwed?

I have an 8 GB White iPod Touch iOS 5.0.1. I went on iTunes and i found out my memory was 6 GB. What happened to the other 2 GB? And I also had 1.5 GB free in my iPod but I still couldn't download Infinity Blade II (which is 940 MB).

Is the 2 GB memory used for the iOS or something else?

Thank you,

iPod touch, iOS 5.0.1, 8 GB

An 8 GB iPod has about 6.3 GB available to the user. The difference is due to the iOS taking up most of it and the remaindr is due to how GBs are advertised and actually used. See:

How Mac OS X and iOS report storage capacity

To install an app it take more than two times the download file size. Two times 940 MB is more than 1.5 GB.
