mac.com email - how to access it?

OK, have not used my mac.com email in a while, lost the password. I recently found it and it works with ID and everything, but it will not sign me in to iCloud as it tells me to get a me.com address. Here is the issue. I have a lost password on another software and the mac.com is my recovery method. All i need to do is access the email, but cannot set it up in mail of anything...any suggestions?

Thanks

Your me.com is the same as your Mac.com. Just change the mac to me, same password...

What do you mean by "it never went anywhere"? Is the message still in your out box? If you had a .mac account when Apple came out with MobileMe you got to keep your .mac address and got the me.com also. If you never signed up for (paid for) MobileMe then you lost both or at least they became inactive, I don't know if you can reactive them or not.

me.com will let me sign in, but only offers the track-my-mac and no access to email

This is what happens when you try to log in with the wrong ID. You may have two separate IDs, one for iTunes and one for MobileMe: it's the latter you need to log in with, the @me.com address for the account.

iCloud is irrelevant unless you have specifically migrated at http://me.com/move - you don't say anything about having done this. If in fact you have done this then you should be able to see your mail athttp://www.icloud.com and in the Mail application if you follow the setup procedure linked to by Mike Johnson12.

OK, I'll try to explain this again.

I PREVIOUSLY had a mac.com account and never used "really" used and then lost the password. Last year i decided to switch everything over to mac/apple and couldn't access the mac.com account, SO...i signed up with me.com. Same name, different .com. Recently, i lost an important password on a business account that i set up years ago and used the mac.com as the recovery email.

NOW, i would like to access the mac.com email account and cannot. I am using LION 10.7.2. I have set up iCloud with the me.com account.

I have tried all the above and NOTHING seems to work...me.com will let me use the mac.com name, but populates the inbox with the me.com mails. And MAIL.MAC.COM will not work for OUTGOING, and does NOTHING for incoming. I can send test emails, but they never arrive or bounce back

Thanks

If I understand you correctly you originally had an @mac.com account which expired; you later reopened what was effectively a new MobileMe account with the same username

When MobileMe took over from .Mac, people who had an account active at that time kept their @mac.com addresses in addition to the new @me.com version. But people who opened a new account after that - as I assume you did - could only get an @me.com address: new @mac.com addresses could not be created from that time (it would have been a new one in your case as the previous one had expired).

The upshot of all this is that I'm afraid you don't have an @mac.com address: it's never going to work. Emails to that address won't go anywhere. As to the password reset which was sent to the @mac.com address this will probably have bounced back to the sender. You will need to contact them and explain the situation, and get them to send to the @me.com address.
