I wanted to be able to search all the videos I've recorded that get put into my iPhoto so I can specifically browse all videos. I don't want to look at movie projects, I just want to be able to have a list pop up of all the videos that are stored on my computer. Macair lion

You can do this using spotlight, click on the Finder Icon on your dock. Then on the left panel there should be a "Search for" option, click on search for all movies. This will locate any videos and movies you have on your MacBook.

I just looked. On my Macbook Pro I have that option "search for" and in it there are three folders, "all Images, All movies and All documents" but on my macair there is no "search for" section. Is there a way fo me to turn this feature on on my Macair? On my macbook pro I could even put ina search term of .avi which brings up all files that have that extension and therfore a lot of my videos....on the macair that doesn't even work???
Are you running different versions of OS X on the MBP and the MBA? e.g. Lion on one and Snow Leopard on another. If using Lion, go into Finder and select All My Files - that will show all the files in your home directory but categorised by type.
Sorry, I missed a step - to get All My Files in Finder categorised by type, you need to select icon view. What happens when you search for .avi files in the Finder search box (top right in any Finder window)? Also, in Finder click on the Action button and select Show Search Criteria. Does that help in finding the files?
I went to icon view. when I type in .avi in the search box it finds nothing. And this is a computer that has the same exact files as my MAcBookPro that finds those exact fiules...so I know they are there. When I open iMovie and it searches the computer it finds them.
Just a thought, let's check that Finder's search box is looking far down enough. Go into Finder - Preferences - General and make sure that "New Finder windows show" has the current user's home directory selected.
Thank you, but I tried that. When I go to movies to search it does NOT identify videos stored on my computer. It only identifies some Imovie projects I started.
Yeah, I'm running Lion on the MBA. The only problem is that there isn't a listing of all the viseos stored on my computer. And I can't even search for .avi type files...

I'm sorry, the "Search for" does list videos on my MacBook. Are you sure your videos have proper video extentions? (e.g. .avi, .wmv, etc.)
Can you find them if you use the ls command in Terminal?
I'm not familiar with that.
I just went into iPhoto, found one of the many videos I've stored there....it ends in .avi
So something is screwy. When I put in .avi in the search box it should find a bunch.
