command+tilde window switching not working well in Lion

Not sure if my computer is acting up or if it's a feature thing? It's acting really weird, I notice that in my web browsers I can't use command+tilde to switch between windows anymore, until ⚠ I click on the window below the top one, then I can switch between those two. If I click on yet another one, it adds it to the pile of windows I can cycle through.

It's incredibly annoying, as I was used to fly through my open windows this way, and now I don't even know how many I have open!
Lets say I have a webcast somewhere I want to get rid of - apple+tilde just doesn't get me there anymore, I have to minimize all my windows to get to the buried culprit.

Anyone has any ideas of how to solve my dillema?

I was recently having weird issues with my machine (i.e. not falling asleep when shut unless power was disconnected, sound panning left after jack plugged in).

Mac genius recommended that I reinstall my OS, which I did. The sleep issue went away. Sound thing is still there occasionally (no rhyme or reason).

I wonder if this is a bug or a new weird Apple feature?

Help!

Hey, just remembered. I used ctrl + tilde to go between tabs. That doesn't work anymore. It is, like you said, ctrl+tab. But, I'd never used that before. Strange. My ctrl+tilde does work to go between windows ~ sorry I cannot imagine why yours does not. Are you sure, sure, that you are definitely hitting the right keys? Try command, option/alt, ctrl and/or fn with tab - otherwise, try deleting your web browsers and reinstalling or upgrade. Sorry not more helpful, but don't give up and I will keep pondering as well...

Unfortunately I have not found a solution.
I've reinstalled my os keeping my settings / files in place.
That did not fix the problem.

I am assuming there's some weird corruption that occured somewhere down the line in my OS that made this glitch.

I have yet to try a full erase and re-install of OS on a clean system. I really don't want to do that, since I would have to manually reinstall a zillion apps I have accumulated over the years... and apple-tilde issue is pretty much the only thing that's visibly off on my computer.

I use terminal a lot and not having this combination of keys working since I installed Lion (on MBP Retina) was driving me MAD. I finally found out that if I change my keyboard layout to "US" it works, but then in "US-International" (which I need) it does not.

Maybe that's the reason why so few people where answering: Most have their keyboard layout as "US" so they're not affected, but the problem is real and is not a configuration issue as I've even tried to re-map the keys while in "international" mode and it did not work.

I guess the only workaround will be to remap the keys to something that works in both modes. Will require some brain rewiring from my part.

Anyway this is definitively a bug in Lion OS/X.

Hm... So this problem has just fully resurfaced for me. And I am the original post creator.

I don't really think any of these suggestions have worked for me.
This blows.

Control Tab just switches between tabs.

I want my cycle back - apple tilde / option tilde
