my old g4 powerbook has suddenly lost the sound. When I click the icon on the home screen the slider is grayed out. When I restarted the powerbook, the sound was there. Now, the next day it isn't and restarting hasn't solved the problem. Does anyone know of a fix? Thanks.

PS

Is this the beginning of the end of my old g4 powerbook? I am mostly using my ipad2, so I am just waiting until I absolutely need a new notebook.

Can you see a red light glowing in the headphone port? Did this start after using headphones or external speakers in that port?

No, we didn't use external speakers or headphones, and there is no red light glowing. The only thing we've done lately si up grade iTunes and sync our ipad2.thanks for trying to help.
