You can recycle an iPhone with an Apple partner and get an Apple gift card. I recall that the value of a 3GS is around $70 if it is in good condition.

I just sold my wife's 3GS - ATT only - in good condition with the original box for 205.00.
I posted it and it was sold within 6 hours. I guess I didn't ask enough in the 'buy it now' section.

In the UK you can sell your phone to a mobile recycling company. I sold my old 3GS for £150.
