Left Click on Trackpad and Mouse Doesn't Work.

I am running OSX Snow Leopard, running the latest updates on a Macbook purchased in 2006. I am unable to perform left clicks on the trackpad as well as on a brand new purchased mouse. I have performed reboots and battery pulls yet it still doesn't work.

Is there a solution? Thanks!
