low quality video when received via mms

Why are some, not all, videos that i receive via iphone mms low quality? Videos that are being sent to me are just 10 seconds or less, yet they are of low quality to the point that i get dizzy when watching it. I've had other iphone users send me videos and there is no common trend. Some videos sent to me are of high quality, yet some are of low.

This is just between an iphone 4 and iphone 4s.

Please let me know if others are experiencing this problem and if there is a resolution to this. I'm about ready to walk into an apple store and demand to talk to a live technician to explain this to me. Sending via email is not an option, and it shouldn't be if the videos are just less than 10 seconds.

Believe it or not, the recommended size by most networks for an MMS message is still 300 kb. Because that's the case, the carrier server that the video message is sent to first will recompress the video to a size/quality that is closer to the size requirement, resulting in a drastically lower resolution message. I know, it *****, right?

Try uploading your videos to YouTube from your phone so that they get to your recipient in a much higher quality.

First of all let me just say how hard it was to just simply post in here using, 1st attempt ihone (which didn't work because no dialogue box would open to type in), then now my iPad, which I couldn't get the keyboard to come in order to type. The cursor was blinking in the dialogue box but no keyboard. I had to trick it by pasting something then the keyboard came up. Posting on an apple forum using an iDevice should be smooth and painless. To Csound1; no that's not it, for some reason while typing my keys will stop working except for the delete key which is how that post happened. Only way to get it unstuck is to post then hit edit reply. Anyhow onto the problem at hand.

I Don't think the low quality vid is a data plan issue, my wife and I share our data, she has an iPhone 5, I have a 4S. Our parents will send us a video; on her device it's HD

I Don't think the low quality vid is a data plan issue, my wife and I share our data, she has an iPhone 5, I have a 4S. Our parents will send us a video; on her device it's HD but on my 4S it's extremely compressed and grainy. We are both sitting side by side on 4G recieving the same vid on the same text from our folks... how does that make any sense. Additionally her phone is over capacity on memory and I have GIGs of free space.

Lastly, let me just state how painful this short post was. i found that every time i move my cursor to make a change (for instance the "i" that I just typed, I will not dare move my cursor back to fix it or else I'd have to "save reply" then edit reply to just start typing again, if I'm lucky) it stops allowing me to type. Only the backspace will work, nothing else. A few of you reading this May catch the absolute frustration in my wording, others will not. Bottom line is that it shouldn't take my entire morning to post this simple reply. It's an apple forum and I'm on an apple device for crying out loud.

First off; I found the solution to the problem, and yes, I could take your advice but that wouldn't fix mine or these other people's problem. It's not that I am opposed to taking advice, I just like to take what people like to call "good advice". I gotta be honest, I'm tired of people telling me to reset my phone to factory whenever there's an issue. I know that many times that will fix problems, but people, please do some research before giving out that kind of advice

I work, am a husband and a father so time is precious; like many others out there I don't have time to sit and **** around in iTunes so resetting my phone is the last thing I want to do. I paid a lot of money for these iDevices and I have high expectations from them as well as the support I should receive from a reputable company like Apple.

Okay, lemme get off my soap box and get back to the problem. I found the solution on another forum a little bit ago and verified that it works. Below is the solution I found from a novice user named RinkoWingMan on MacRumors forum:

iMessage blurry video solution

Hi Folks,

I encountered the same problems;

When I sent a video through iMessage to my wife's iPhone and my iPad. It arrived at her iPhone 4 and later iPhone 5 extremely blurry.

No solutions found on the internet.

We have similar phone contracts even signed them on the same day. Mine is fine. Hers is blurry.

I found that the only difference was, she was using a hotmail email as 'You can be reached by iMessage at:' and her phone number.

I was using gmail. Apparently that did it. I changed her hotmail there to her gmail account and made sure I chose her gmail as the iMessage recipient.

That did it.

Not blurry anymore.

So no need to email them. Just make sure you send it to the gmail recipient for iMessage.

Good luck peeps..

Just like he recommended I switched my iMessage account to my gmail as the primary and now vids come in HD. I hope this helps everyone else out there, and saves them from hours of researching forums and prevents them from doing unneeded resets. Not bad for a level nothing with zero points : ) Okay, now that over half of my day-off is gone let me get back to life, take care!
