I'm also having problems installing itunes 10.5 on my win XP. Had it on no problems but an iPad iOS5 update failed and Apple customer services told me to uninstall and re-install itunes. Now itunes won't install and my iPad's stuck in recovery mode!!!

My error message is: The older version of Apple Mobile Device Support cannot be removed

So disappointed with Apple. Great products but appalling support.

Thanks for the replies. I tried again and got error message: 1604 which is USB related. I've connected the pad to each of my USB 2.0 ports with no success, still getting a 1604 error message. I also disabled my av software which didn't seem to make a difference.

I've since connected it to a mates laptop and restored it so its now working.

I did call Apple support and was on the phone a total of 2hrs and they couldn't solve the problem for me. However, there is a lot of useful information on these forums if you spend a little time searching for it... it's a shame users have to rely on this.
