Why am I unable to open .xls file attachment from email?

Hey everyone.

So I have an iPhone 4s, and I received an email that came with an .xls attachment. When I touched the button for it to download, it wouldn't even download. It would be the spinning loading wheel and stay at 0.0 kb the whole time, or the button would flicker really fast. When I asked 2 of my co-workers, who also have an iPhone 4s, if they had the same problem as me opening the .xls file, no one had a problem. Can anyone help me fix this problem? Thanks.

Maybe they have an app installed that reads .xls format...

Initially I had thought that, but I asked that question to them and neither of them have an app on their phone that helps them read .xls format.

They may *think* they have no app that reads .xls files.

I even took their phones to search through them to make sure of that. They don't.

Do they have GoodReader? Numbers? There are many other apps that you wouldn't think can read .xls files.

.xls is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Numbers will be able to read/import it.

The problem is more with the download of .xls too. Like when I press on it, it doesn't even download, the file is about 14 kb, and all I see is that loading wheel and 0.0 kb.

XLS files are viewable, on the iPhone, from attachments. However, the iPhone cannot handle an html page saved with an xls extension. That is most likely your problem.
