Ipod nano 6th gen cable

Hi,

I just received my 6th generation Ipod Nano. I joined the replacement program for 1st generation and got a new unit after waiting a couple of weeks. Since I only received the unit, not cables or anything I tried the 1st gen cable. It didn't work.

Are the 1st gen and 6th gen cables different? Does anyone know the specific pinout?

I forgot to mention I was trying to charge the ipod with a USB charger (230 Vac to USB 5 Vdc). Now I tried to connect the ipod to a PC with the original 1st gen cable and it works just fine! Both charging and mp3 transfer.

So, the 1st gen USB cable can charge the ipod with a PC, but not with a USB charger. I also tried a old ipod charger (with the 30pin dock connector) and it didn't work either. Seems that others are having this problem too:

Found out that Apple requires a special charger that has also the USB's middle data lines connected. Many (most?) chargers are providing only ground and +5V.

Here is more information:

Wikipedia (USB):

Before the battery charging specification was defined, there was no standardized way for the portable device to inquire how much current was available. For example, Apple's iPod andiPhone chargers indicate the available current by voltages on the D- and D+ lines. When D+ = D- = 2V, the device may pull up to 500mA. When D+ = 2.0V and D- = 2.8V, the device may pull up to 1000mA of current.

Going to use a PC to do the charging then.
