Can't find iOS simulator on a fresh install.

Hi,

I just installed Xcode from the App Store on Lion, and I cannot find the iOS Simulator: it should be within the /Platforms/ directory, but it is not.

The only reason, at present, for which I want to have the simulator running is that I have found that my websites have some serious rendering issues on iOS' Safari, and since I cannot find any guidelines nor reasons for which this is happening, I would like to be able to have the mobile Safari running next to full Safari to try and understand the issues.

Does anyone have an idea as to why I cannot find or access the iOS Simulator? I registered as a developer (free account) thinking that maybe this was necessary, but I still cannot figure out why it simply is not present.

It should be here:

/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/Applications/iPhone Simulator.app

Did you run the Install Xcode app after you downloaded from the Mac App Store?

If you get the simulator running, iOS5 uses an updated webkit, so you may want to toggle between 5.0 and 4.3.2 when testing, to insure coverage accordingly 🙂

After downloading from the Mac App Store, you need to find the 'Install Xcode' app inside your Applications folder and run that before you'll actually have Xcode itself installed.

Do that, then check the path for the simulator...

you win! nowhere in the documentation did I see any mention that you had to run an installer after the app had installed and was running. So I quit Xcode, then ran the installer, and now I have the simulator running.

HMmmm I am having the same issue. I downloaded and installed the XCode but I can't find IOS simulator by searching in the spotlight. I know XCode is installed because I can run it.

Any ideas?

It's still there, but buried in the app bundle....Spotlight won't talk about that location.

Run Xcode, build an app to the sim and once it runs. hit the pref to keep in dock or view in finder.

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you have the full path to get to it? From what I understand, XCode does not have to be running to run the simulator.
