Q: Using an Airport Express as an extended network and attaching with an ethernet cable

Hi all, I'm trying to extend an Apple network.

I have an Airport Extreme upstairs - this is my main wireless.

I also have an Airport Express downstairs - this is for extending the network and for AirTunes.

I have a TV which doesn't have built-in wireless - can I plug the TV to the Airport Express as an internet connection?

Will I still be able to use the Express for AirTunes?

The alternative would be to get a usb wireless adapter, but this seems pointless as the Express is right there by the TV!

(sorry if this is a stupid question)

I tried just plugging it in, but it doesn't seem to work - do I need to change any settings for the Airport Express, such as putting it into 'Bridge' mode?

I have assumed that both of your AirPorts are 802.11n models ... are they? I also assumed is that you have them configured as an extended network ... is it?

Yes they are. and both are set to 'extended network'.

The "main" base station should be configured for Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network; the extending base station is the only one that should only one configured for Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network.
