There is the Free iTube Grabber which can capture almost any audio and/or video stream (it says here) but only works with Intel Macs.

Firefox Download Helper is also supposed to work, you have to be logged into YouTube first.
There is also iTubeX which allows you to download videos (Flash, HTML5 and others), .mp3 and .swf files from almost every website as easily as possible:

Lastly: How to download Flash videos and play them in Quicktime using Perian is explained here:
It's the video at the bottom of the page.
Last but not least (as some of the above may not work with Snow Leopard or Lion) there is the 'pwn trick':
For example, the full youtube site for your movie is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC2XIGMI ... e=youtu.be
As soon as the movie starts, pause it and add 'pwn' in front of the youtube part of the url so it looks like this:
http://www.pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=bC2XI ... e=youtu.be
Hit Return and then follow the instructions.
does anyone know why the safari trick no longer works?
Just tried the itube grabber and it does the same thing. Wont download more than 2 mb.
am i the only one that get the 1.7mb every 5 sec or so and cant download videos from activity window anymore?
Check your extensions. I had the same problem and when I uninstalled all of my extensions, this fixed it for me. Good luck!
uninstalled all of the extentions, no joy.
I also deleted all web content or cookies from the privacy section. Not the history. It worked for me a couple of times and then I started getting the 1.7mb segments again. After pressing the reload button, the large file appeared and I was able to download it. Hope this helps.
I'm at a loss. I'm not a pro, and am actually new to this, the only other thing I would try is to reset safari.
I tried everything I know too, thanks for the help. I actually just discovered, and not sure if its because I cleared temp files or what, but it does seem to work on some not on others. hmmmmm....
Cool
Youtube now splits it's media files into different sections to prevent people from downloading the flv/mp4. Unless someone creates an app that downloads each section and merges them all together, you can no longer download the actual videos, or at least newer, HD videos.
Klaus, your post was the most helpful by far!!! I tried the "pwn trick" and it worked perfectly! Thanks
Here is a quick guide on how to download YouTube videos on Mountain Lion using Safari 6! Many of you have been requesting this article, so here it is! Sorry for the delay!
Step 1) Go to Kwizzu.com and click on the "Install" button at the bottom. For this step, make sure you are in Safari or else it will download for your other browser.
Step 2) After the Safari Extension is installed, you can simply go to any YouTube video as you normally would.
Step 3) Right below the video, on the right side of the "Share" button, there will now be a "Download" button that will allow you to select which format you would like to download the video in. It could not get any simpler than this! If you need help with this step, take a look at the screenshot above, it should be able to help you!
If you have any questions about the process described above, please leave a question in the comments below and I will be sure to answer them!
