Q: how do i check my computer's memory

I am trying to download Lion and the message that pops up says I need 2GB of memory. How do I check my computer's memory and clear space if necessary?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

This relates to RAM not storage space on your drive. Your computer needs at least 2 GBs of RAM in order to use Lion. Add more RAM and you'll be fine.

    Lion System Requirements

    • Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    • 2GB of memory
    • OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    • 7GB of available space
    • Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

    No problem.

In your computer's user manual is a section on how to add memory. If you don't have the manual you can download a copy at support.apple.com/manuals/.

It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

Determining how much RAM you have and how to install more hardly requires knowing a model. Why don't you try adding something new instead of trolling on others. I've already answered the OP's questions.

Since how much RAM a MacBook can use and what type of RAM and how to install it depends on the model of MacBook it is germane to the discussion.

On an earlier discussion you told a questioner that the 5,2 MacBook used 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM but that's only true for the Early 2009, 2.0GHz Model Only. The Mid 2009, 2.13GHz Model 5,2 uses 800mhz PC2-6400 RAM.

If you don't want me to butt in on your answers then give a complete step by step answer with links for clarity.

And, if you were considerate you wouldn't be butting in at all. You not only have done this in topics to which I've replied you do it in others as well. It has been reported to the moderators.

Had you read the question you would note the OP only wants to know if more RAM is needed for Lion. Every Intel Mac supports Lion's minimum requirement. You don't need to know a model to answer the question.

You can always go to www.crucial.com, I buy my memory from them because they have a way of scanning your system and know exactly what you have and what kind of memory is supported by your system. Is Mac friendly and not expensive. :-)

    +1 BatistaTV

I upgrade my macbook's ram and i choose Crucial 4g

They made apple compatible memory wich is great because some of ram doesn't work with Macintosh.

Crucial have a form on web pages to check wich memory you need. Just check your macbook.

    Your macbook will be faster.
