If it's a post 2009 Mac it supports audio on the HDMI port. See:

MacBook Pros as of April 2010 support audio through Mini Displayport. If you have a Mid to Late 2010 then it will support audio.

Kappy, that's true with Macs, but MacBook Pros weren't able to send audio signals through Mini Displayport until April 2010
