Airprint error - printer offline

I cannot get my iphone 4 or ipad 2 to print to my new HP7510 wireless printer using the Airprint function. The printer works when sending print requests from my windows computer and both devices print when using e-print, but nothing when using Airprint.

The devices show the printer, and I have tried all the troubleshooting suggestions from HP, and still nothing. The devices show that the printer is offline when it is not. Any suggestions? Could this be attributed to my old D-link 54G router?

Graham-

Have you checked to see if there is a firmware update available for the printer? You should be able to do that from the printer's control panel in one of the setup or preferences menus.

It is possible that your WiFi router does not correctly handle Bonjour data required by AirPrint. You should contact D-Link to see if there is a change you can make to the router's setup, or if there is a firmware update that will help.

Did either your iPhone or iPad ever recognize the printer? If so, there might be a print job stuck in the print queue. Double click the Home button, and a row of recent Apps will line up along the bottom of the screen. Scroll across and check to see if the print queue is there.

I know this is an old post, but I was having this same problem with my dad's new HP printer last night. It kept saying 'printer is offline' despite it working fine from a desktop machine. It turned out the iPad was actually on a different network than the printer despite the printer showing up as a device on both networks. I think this can happen if you have a main router (in our case a virgin hub) and an additional router connected to it as a wireless booster in another part of the house. Switching the ipad onto the other network worked perfectly. That might be what's happening with doing random restarts etc - both devices eventually pick up the same network.

Hi Dazman,

Thanks so much for posting. I couldn't figure out why I was getting the "printer is off-line" message all of a sudden. I turned my devices off and on numerous times, and downloaded the latest firmware and software for my printer. After reading your post, I remembered that the DSL technician had come a few days ago and installed a new router. So that was my problem. I went into my printer's Wi-Fi settings and added the new network name and key. Bingo, it's working perfectly again.
