go to settings general then restrictions turn of safari and installing apps
set pass code and thats u,
u need to turn off the install apps to stop a user from down loads a other app to use the internet
set a passcode to lock it
settings>general>restrictions
you can block explicit music, safari (the internet browser), youtube, itunes and installing apps.
Thanks everyone, this is really helpful.
One last question - we have passed ipods down in the family - mom to daughter, etc.
Any idea how to re-set the restrictions password? I have one ipod that I don't know the password. It seems as tho' the restrictions password is differernt from the one she uses to log in. Thanks.
You will have to restore it completely... Here are directions:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.

If you don't know the passcode to the Restrictions, you'll have to restore the device to factory settings and then resync all the content.

if there no passcode set u should be able to set one,
if one has been set by the family member that had it first ask them they might know it
if they dont restore the ipod to factory settings via itunes restore tab when u plug it in to computer
then re sync ur apps music etc
or restore ipod via dfu mode
