The settings changes you're reverting might have been inadvertent (due to damage to the key), or might have been deliberately made by a third party program that monitors internet usage (by instituting a Layered Service Provider on the PC). So making the change will possibly impact on the software that set up the LSP.

Feb 18, 2013 2:12 PM in response to b noirby ImNick,Hi there, I'm having the same problem on OSX 10.8.2 - do you know if there is an equivalent fix on Mac? I've tried everything else and still can't connect to either iTunes or App store and it's driving me mad.
