No access to Documents folder

As the new iMac isn't compatible with the old Macbook (vis a vis cabling), I couldn't use Migration Assistant, so used Carbon Copy Cloner instead.

While I could clone my macbook drive, I had no joy brining it over to the iMac – 19 hours later and nothing's happened. So I switched CCC off.

Now I get this message:

The folder “Documents” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.

Fixing permissions and a restart haven't helped.

Any suggestions?

I followed this article:

But also opened the folders under my User account, then hit CMD+I to see the folder permissions, which I then reset – as they'd been changed and a permissions repair hadn't worked.
