Cannot shut down macbook pro because of iTunes

Hello, I'm having problem to shut down my laptop. I think it is because of iTunes... Every time if I open iTUNES (and I even if I close it with Q command), i cannot shut down my macbook properly. I have to hold power button. If i don't open iTunes at all (i use other programms) it shuts down normaly, with no problems... Is any one had similiar problem? Could someone advise me what to do!!! Thanks.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

I quit all apps, I quit iTunes... only Finder still in the list... but if I opened iTunes before, macbook cannot shut down properly, it just show me Grey Screen (Lion OS). Before, when I had Snow Leopard I even didn't see FileVault... I know that there is something related with iTunes... Because when I'm not opening it at all during the session, everything is fine.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:

  • Be sure your Mac is shut down.
  • Press the power button.
  • Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
  • Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.

Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?

After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

Hello,

I know this issue may be considered resolved, but I have a caveat.

FIrst, I believe the OP is having trouble with FORCE quitting iTunes when he/she is using the force quit option. I am having the same dilemma. So, the answers that suggest to force quit is not answering the question.

I WILL try to force quit, and it will, but then reappear after 2 seconds. I can't restart or shut down at all because iTunes won't quit. I will even just try re-booting it, but it will not let me, because it says it's already shutting down.

So, what I just did was log out. It worked! I will consider re-installing Maverick.

Can anyone actually answer the question?

The answer OP found helpful wouldn't help me, because I couldn't shut down unless iTunes quit and I could not force quit iTunes at all.

Thank you.
