I recently got an ipad and I love my kindle. I noticed when you try to define words there is an ability to search the internet. With kids in the home, we want to manage web surfing. Is there a way to monitor or block this capability on the Kindle App?

You would have to ask Amazon to be certain, but I don't see any feature in the current version of the Kindle app where you can turn off Google or Wikipedia word search. If there is, it would be in the Settings -> Kindle (I don't have my iPad handy right now to look).

In Restrictions you can turn off access to Safari which I believe will also block its use in the Kindle app.
Short answer is no.
As what you're talking about is actually a requested feature for the Kindle App, suggest you forward it via their Support links.
