My ipod classic is only showing a plug in logo??

I have reformatted my ipod classic to windows XP but since then it has now disapeared from my computer and is not on itunes either. The display is showing a plug in logo and although it is conected to the compter via a USB connecter, there is no light and nothing else works. It was working fine before the reformatting?? The reason for the reformatting is due to the ipod being second hand and was originally formatted to a mac computer.

Have i killed it??

You can restore the iPod disk to use it with a Windows-compatible computer.

Hi Carolyn,

My biggest problem at the moment is the fact the ipod will not turn on, nothing but a plug to socket logo. The ipod was showing a full battery before reformatting. I have placed it in my new docking unit and also plugged it into my pc but there is no power from it. I really haven't a clue what to do now???

Everything is now working. It appears one has to use an ipod charger to wake it up, apparently an ipod dock doesn't always have enough power charge for the system. As soon as it was pluged into the wall charger, it woke up!!

HI, I had the same problem with my original 60gb iPod, i eventually found the original two-part plug, plugged it in and hey presto the iPod came to life. It appears that the one piece charger you get with your iPhone doesnt have enough power to bring the old iPod's back to life.
