where can i download idvd?

Stiil learning mac & its OS since purchasing the newest 27" mac at best but in dec. Everything has been easy to learn so far thanks to the help button but i can't seem to understand why iDVD isn't installed or working correctly, i cannot seem to find it in my comp or the app store. iMOVIE seems to work fine but when i try to burn a dvd by selecting share iDVD, it only takes a while to appear loading somewhere but i can't find it... i've updated software after checking for updates but still no iDVD. Whats the best thing to do? hopefully i'm doing something wrong & won't have to buy iDVD. Thanks for helping...

iDVD is not, and has never been, available for download.

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to destribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That has worked for some, but is not guaranteed to work for all.

Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with Lion. You have to buy iLife 11 from online Apple Store in order to get iDVD. You are strongly recommended to do so soon as it will not be available for much longer. I currently run a G5 PPC Mac but have already purchased iLife 11 (which will only run on Intel Macs) to be ready for the day I update to an Intel iMac. Which will be when, and only if, Lion has been superceded by a sensible operating system that allows the user to choose what applications to use, and how, and does not dictate how I destribute family videos or photos to distant relatives and friends, and does not assume that every user is prepared to pay for the excessive bandwidth usage charged by ISPs for huge downloads from the App Store.

It's now confirmed that iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.

In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.

HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still currently available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.

Yes, that is one of the great mysteries of the universe.

Whats the best thing to do?

If you are still within your 15 day return period, nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.

Sometimes Apple will sent out iDVD at no charge.

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 (includes iDVD) on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.
