music app screen goes black

I have an issue with the Music app on my iPad1.

If I stop playing music and exit the app from the Now Playing screen, when I next open the app and go back to the Playlists, Songs, Artists & other screens, the main part of the app is black. This means that I cannot see the playlists, albums and so on. In fact the only thing I can see is the screen border, the volume slider and the play/pause button. it's like the app only loads part of the GUI.

The only cure appears to be restarting the iPad 😟

Anyone else experianced this issue and if so is there any fix?
