Limitations of Wireless Wake on Demand

Using a VNC app an iPhone 4s, is it possible to connect remotely, over the Internet, to a MBP (early 2011, Lion 10.7.2, Wake on Wireless = Supported) when:

a) the MBP is sleeping and

b) the MBP is connected wirelessly to a Time Capsule (firmware 7.4.2) and

c) the Time Capsule is Ethernet-cabled to a Verizon FIOS ActionTec (MI424-WR) router with the Time Capsule in bridge mode and with the public IP address assigned to the ActionTec.

Thanks in advance for any insight on this question.

Try it and see.. passing the special wake on lan packet to the computer in question depends on the router .. the TC in bridge should not block the packet.. but if you have issues try it with ethernet. Occasionally we do see issues getting packets to wireless when the client is sleeping. You can also just check from another computer if the wireless on the sleeping MBP is still active.. it will show in the log.

But WOL packets are notoriously hard to get working. Since you can do this in the comfort of your own home.. just experiment.. !!

If it doesn't work check out guides for passing WOL packets in the particular model modem router you have. Some can be port forwarded. You also need to lock the IP address of the MBP so you know it will work.
