I am trying to transfer my HP deskjet 9680 from my PPC iMac running OS X 10.5 to my Intel iMac running OS X 10.6, but it doesn't show up. Is there a HP deskjet 9680 printer driver that will work on 10.6 or 10.7? I have been unable to find one.

Sadly, there isn't one. HP does not support this printer in 10.6 or 10.7. However, you should try selecting the HP 9800 series driver and test your printer's features to see if all of them work. There are reports that this will solve your problem.

I'm currently on 10.6.8. How do I select the HP 9800 series driver? When I hooked up the printer there were no options to select in the printer dialog window as there are on my older iMac.
I don't have a Snow Leopard machine in front of me, so I can't tell you how to set it up. I did set it up for a friend of mine awhile ago, but I wasn't paying attention to exactly how, because it's so simple.
Apple does include the HP DeskJet 9800 driver with Snow Leopard, so you should be able to select it for use. I'd read these two documents and see if they don't help you get this setup correctly:

If you don't have luck with the 9800 driver, use the HPIJS drivers from OpenPrinting. See http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpijs
Be sure to install all three packages -- HPIJS, Foomatic-RIP, and Ghostscript
