Thanks Bob. This is what I have been using 🙂
If I'm in a table and want to delete the contents of a number of highlighted cells, I can't seem to use this key. Is there an alternative to deleting the rows of the table and adding them back in....seems a long way round!
I use an iMac so the keyboard is different. When I am in a Numbers spreadsheet, I can select several cells and hitting the delete key will delete all the contents of the selected cells.
Thanks Bob. I don't seem to be able to do this (in Microsoft Word for Mac)
Sorry I dont use Word on a mac. maybe someone else will comment.
Many keys have seconday and tertiary functions when used in combination with one of the modifier keys (keys to the left of the space bar).
For example, by pressing and holding doen the "fn" key and then pressing the "delete" key will make the cursor forward delete. The Option Key can be used with the delete key to backward delete whole words in a document.
On my mac air its a arrow pointing to the left in the same place as the graphic. Was pulling my hair out trying delete shared files on an app in my ipad. Found it on file sharing help eventually. How delete changed to an arrow is beyond me except backspace idea might have something to do with the reasoning.
The key in question is the backspace key, but if you use command and backspace I believe that it will perform as you requested. It certainly moves files to trash and disconnects drives.
thanks!!
I got to this page because I was trying to delete (make transparent) a selection in Photoshop CS6 on my Air, and couldn't get the DEL (backspace) key to work (it kept filling my selection). Eventually found a reference that told me you can't delete a selection of a LOCKED background layer!!!!!! Duplicated the layer and bingo!
Simple---> Command key plus delete which is at the right hand side of your keyboard
Delete key was removed from MacBook Air. Full details here: http://www.yourdailymac.net/2011/06/how-to-help-my-mac-doesnt-have-a-delete-butt on/
