Macbook Pro 13" with Seagate Momentus XT 750GB

Hi!

I have an 13" Mid 2010 Macbook Pro which was equipped with a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Hybrid drive. Nice and smooth solution running for a year now.

Hard disk was near full so I decided to buy the Momentus XT with 750GB and replace the hard disk with this thing. I copied my harddrive to the new HDD over USB SATA adapter with Carbon Copy Cloner. Everything perfect. Then I openend the Macbook, replaced the HDD and started.

Blank screen, and a folder symbol with a question mark appeared after a while. I tried to start with MacOS CD, but after a while the only thing the machine is telling to push power off button. Hmmm.

I replaced the new HDD with the old, everything is fine. I reattached the 750GB on USB adapter, everything works. OS files are blessed, so booting should be no problem.

Is there any incompatibility with the new SATA-600 Interface of the Momentus XT? Other cables required? Other firmware?

Any hints?

Thanks for an answer.

Ciao

Ciao Armin,

no worries so far. I booted with Lion OS X install disk, opened Disk Utility and partitioned the drive. Thereafter, the installer was able to see the disk partitioned accordingly.

I bought this drive this afternoon, and had same worries regarding SATA compatibility, as was not able to see the drive installed neither internally nor using an external USB adapter... then, I thought there might be an issue because of power requirements, as some some posts discussed compatibility between 7200 rpm disks and mid-2010 13"MBP.

But then, when I used this disk on another Windows laptop, I've seen that the drive is properly recognized and is working with SATA 3 Gbps interfaces.

I hope this solves your inquiry, and saves you some money 🙂

Facci sapere,
