MAC not uploading to YouTube

I edit short films on my MacBook Pro with FCP 7. I then use Compressor to the exact settings as laid out by YouTube. The movies continue to fail to upload. Curious thing is, it works without a problem if I move my file to my old PC. However, this is not a solution as I am doing more movies and my PC laptop is near death. This was basically the case since I got this, my first, Mac. I keep my software limited to Chrome, Adobe Suite, FCP and related Apple software. Basically, the only other software is that which came on the computer at time of purchase last spring. I am at a loss, but it is clearly an issue with my Mac. If it were the file or Youtube, it would also not work on my PC.

Hi T_race,

Do you use Compressor or Final Cut Pro to upload your files to YouTube directly from the program or do you export the files to a folder and then upload them to YouTube with the uploader from the website?

Mostly I have tried uploading directly through Youtube's upload page with the file created in Compressor. This is what I have been doing, but with the PC after moving the file over. The same file does not upload using the Mac.

I have tried uploading directly using the share feature in FCP, Compressor, and Quicktime 10. All have given the same results. 8+hour upload time that fails in the end. The same file takes 30 minutes using my PC on the same wireless network from the same connection.

The reason for your problem may be your browser then. Is your standard browser set on Google Chrome or is it still Safari? When you try to make a connection with the internet with some programs, they sometimes use Safari (or another standard browser) to do this. Changing the standard browser to Safari may solve your problem.

I use Chrome exclusively and have the most current version. I am not sure how to change the "standard". Should it be Safari or Chrome for best results? You say try Safari, but Chrome is what Youtube recommends for Mac, being part of google and all.

You can change Safari to your standard browser by simply clicking on it in your browser settings (in Safari).

YouTube only recommends Google Chrome for YouTube because they both go under Google. This means that this is a pure marketing related advice, which has nothing to do with your Mac.

It appear that this issue has been raised in several forums, but none provided a solution. One of them suggests that this is Youtube and not the Mac, but it works with my PC or when another member switches over to Vista. For Vista to do something more smoothly than a Mac is sacreligious!

One more point, my Mac does work for very small files sizes. Longer videos (over 2 minutes) work only with my PC.

Hi, I just tried uploading a new video via Safari with Safari set as my standard browser. It continues to fail. After one hour (what it takes to complete on my PC with the same file) Safari is telling me 2% and 2544min (increasing). Clearly not going to work. So, Safari as standard browser is not the issue. Same file works again on the PC.

Have you tried uploading to YouTube without using the "share feature?" I upload video to YouTube all the time. Most of them are approximately 1 hour long. I have never run across an issue like yours. However, I have never used the "share features." I just follow YouTube's basic uploading instructions.

I should reiterate that I do not have any problems uploading on my PC. It is not my file. It is not Youtube. It is not my failure to use the upload feature. The only thing that changes is my Mac and it fails. Extremely strange and frustrating. I really apreciate your help. I am not the first person to have this problem as I mentioned, but all of the similar posts are older and have no answer.
