dark wavy line on screen

Here is a photo of the wavy line on my screen and a screen shot where it does not show up.

Update for anyone interested,

The dark wavy line is more visible when the computer is warmed up.

When it's just started, it is much less obvious.

So it seems to be heat related.

My machine is covered by Apple Care, so I have requested a repair and it should be done early next week.

Note that the repair will be done on site here at home, because I requested an onsite repair.

Few people know that onsite repairs is a service that is included in the Apple Care package for 27" iMacs.

You have to ask for it or they will tell you to take the machine to a repair shop.

I will post again when the repair is done.

Second update;

Service technician came here today to change the screen.

A very good looking young women. That's something you rarely see ( a women, good looking or not 🙂 )

in technical services!

She took off the front glass with suction cups, (it's only held with magnets).

Then she removed the LCD panel and installed the new one.

We started the machine and the problem was gone BUT, the image on the new screen was a very soft and pale and showed something I have never seen before, instant image burn in!

Any window that I opened left a very visible ghost image after being closed.

She said she as never seen this happen before.

Obviously there was something wrong with the replacement screen ( most likely it's a bad refurbished unit! ).

So she put my original screen back in and said she would order a new one and come back in a day or two.

So problem not fixed yet! 😟

I will update after her next visit.

Final update,

Service technician came back today with a new LCD panel (pretty sure it's also a refurb).

She installed it rapidly, and we turned it on before replacing the glass front to see if it was working OK.

Everything was fine! 🙂

The hardest part was reinstalling the glass without letting any dust inside between the LCD and the glass front.

She had to remove the glass and clean the LCD and the back of the glass at least 6 to 8 times before we could not see any specks of dust or fiber stuck between the LCD and the glass. She used a special sticky roller to remove dust from the glass.

So the new LCD is now installed and working fine (fingers crossed) no more strange wavy line on it.

Note: She brought a air humidifier with her to increase humidity in the room so that there was less dust particles in the air.

I think it did help.

An other note:

Total cost of repair was $713.64 plus taxes!

I did not pay a thing, thanks to Apple Care extended warranty! 🙂
