I just bought a Canon 20D digital camera. When connecting my Powerbook to either a Powershot or Canon Digital Rebel camera via USB connection, iPhoto automatically opens and asks if you want to download photos. When connecting my Canon 20D the same way, nothing happens. I have to use the Canon EOS Viewer Utility the view the images. I can drag the images from Canon EOS Viewer Utility to the desktop and then to iPhoto. So there is a way. But I am wondering if there is a way to transfer from the Canon 20D directly to iPhoto like I have done with the Rebel and Powershot ? I am very comfortable with iPhoto and would like to continue to use it. Is that crazy thinking ? Should I get to know Canon EOS Viewer Utility better ? Thanks for your help.
I am writing from Japan. I encountered to the same problem. Have you ever tried to set the communication setting of EOS 20D to "PTP"rather than "Standard" (I guess it will be written like that since I am using Japanese menu setting so that I cannot tell.) However it is needed to use PTP in case of EOS 20D, I believe. Please try out!!

Hi there,
I'm having the same problem with my Canon 20D!!
Do not use the EOS Viewer Utility, it is really rubbish. I have loaded it and think it may be part of the problem!!
I also tryed what the guy from Japan suggested but still not working!!
Have you had any luck?

I admit the connecting EOS20D has sometime difficulty. My case PowerBook sometime did not recognize so that this is not stable always. One of the thing you may check is whether the USB is connected directy to the front/back Mac USB port or through HUB? I would recommend to try connecting drecty to the front USB rahter than HUB.
Hello ndbob79,
I was fumbilng with how to connect as well. I changed the communication to PTP and iphoto 5 can now connect with my Canon 20D. Go to menu>communication>PTP and hit set. It is great now!
Cheers
