My son lost his iPod touch 4 th generation, I installed the find my iPhone app on my cell and was wondering how accurate the app was. It tells me it's across the street and then it moves to the middle of the street.

iPod touch (4th generation), iOS 5.0.1

It won't work if the iPod is off.  It will work if it's asleep.  But note that it only works if it is connected to a wi-fi source that is unsecured (or that the iPod has be configured to connect to).

No.  Be forewarned that the WiFi location services isn't very accurate.  You're lucky that it was reported as being in the same town!

Not true.  Any router within range can be used without regard to connection status or even lock/unlock status.

I have found it to be accurate when I have used it. You don't need the iPhone app on the iTouch to find it, the locate iPod just has to be turned on and connect to iCloud.

Ok, I have to retract the accuracy statement. I just tried it and it said it was at my neighbors house...I'm holding it in my hand :/
