How to show desktop when using full screen apps.

So I've tried Command + H, and it works for some games like Call of Duty, but it's not always consistent. And I've tried the Fn + F11 and that doesnt work either.

In this case, I'm running Penumbra: Overture from Steam, how can I quickly hide it/immediately access my desktop while playing it?
