Not getting any push notification when iphone is in sleep mode

Hello friends,

In my previous threads i talk about my problem that i faced with my iphone and now got replaced with new iphone which is working fine except

wifi issue which i had already faced earlier (with my first iphone)

The Problem is "I am enable to get any push notification including email, facebook, ebuddy e.t.c" when my iphone goes to sleep mode (locked)

my wifi disconnects after 20 sec when the device is locked (sleep mode) even if cellular data/3G is disable. again when i press home button and slide to unlock its automatically connect. In this situation i am not able to get even a single push notification when my phone is locked why?

I also found a thread saying that this happened after update of iOS 4.3.1 and my iOS is uptodate means 5.0.1 and apple did this to save battery but my question is if wifi will not work in that moment how would i get the push notification? its totally waste then?

please help me to solve this problem its fraustating 😟

The iPhone is designed to turn off the Wi-Fi radio to conserve power when in sleep mode. Unless something is actively using the Wi-Fi like a streaming app, there is no way to keep the Wi-Fi active in sleep mode.

then how would i get notification of social messengers as well as email? should i pick my iphone in every 10-15 minutes and check either i have receive any email or not? dont you think its a stupid idea?

If the phone is plugged in to power, wifi will stay on when the iPhone sleeps.

hey thanks for your valueable response i already know when my iphone connected to the wall charger it stay connected to wifi and i agree to your pont though its a silly idea because if i am using wifi in airport or coffee restaurent then how would i look if i will take chargers, usb cables along with my iphone in a coffee shop?

apple clearly stated that the new ios feature includes persistent wifi even when in sleep mode. So the wifi should still stay connected in sleep/autolock mode though... so we can get push notification anytime...

i checked my router also i am using netgear WG111v3 and i dont think its router problem, i asked some of my friends and they told me that their iphone wifi disconnect when in sleep mode but they are able to get push notification when phone is locked....i dont know what is the issue 😟

You should be able to get notifications on either wifi or cellular. Standard troubleshooting steps are Restart, Reset, Restore.

i have done all things, my iphone is new and bought today, fresh install of iOS and apps and everything is fine except this push notification issue....

Facebook, twitter, ebuddy, yahoo, gamecenter all messenger apps as well as email push notificaion's which generally work well with 3G/Cellular Data but not in wifi (when locked). i hope you got the point...

Men I have the same problem as you with the WI-FI, and i don't recive ANY push notifications Instead of the EMAIL that works Perfectly BUT all the other Push notifications does not work : all types of msn, facebook, ETC I update to IOS 5.0.1 after i did that all the push notifications went down. If someone can help with that i would be thankfull ,cuz i've tried Everything and nothing works

Hope I'm not being stupid, but did you check your Notification Settings? I reset my phone and had to go back and fix the notifications. They would appear after I woke my phone up from sleep mode.

Settings<Notifications<Sort Manually<(i.e.) Facebook<Notification ON<Banner

Hope this isn't thread hijacking but I have never, ever had push notifications work properly - I have latest iOS, plus twitter app installed and facebook and foursquare - but I only get notifications if the app is actually running and for maybe about 10 minutes after I close it!? All notifications are set to work in settings. I have long given up... maybe someone should invent a little app that goes look for a push notification if the **** push notifications can't work by themselves!?

PS. I am still on iPhone 3G, just in case this is a known issue?

I was having the same trouble but could be able to manage all push messages work after re-setting them on notification settings (except for live messenger). But it didn't work at all for live messenger. I am receiving messages only after I re-open the application. Then, I installed ebuddy for messenger and push is working flawless. From time to time I am still trying for live messenger for if the issue is resolved but had no luck:( By the way, I have a brand new 4S and OS 5.1 is installed.

I really appreciate if anybody resolve push issue on live messenger.

You need a recent Wireless-N router not wireless-g or draft-n but 802.11n router that supports the low power state wifi connection and instant reconnect from sleep.

Wireless 802.11g disconnects when you sleep but 802.11n keeps your device connected in a low power way to support push notifications.

To reiterate your router needs to be able to Wake up your device ad initiate a connection not just your phone doing it
