I found someone's I pad, how do I return it?

Hello,

I found someone's Ipad in a taxi today. How do I get it back to its rightful owner?

You can look at the contacts in the iPad, and at least mine, has an option under settings, mail contacts and calendar for 'my info'

see what's listed there.

In the contacts they may also have a listing for 'mom' or 'dad' or the such, a number you can call to get into contact with the person

that's probably what the police would do if they were trying to find an owner

Most likely, the iPad has a screen lock so can't get into it.

you can then contact Apple with this information and they should be able to give you contact details.

Under NOcircumstances will Apple give out any info such as this.

You can give them your own info along with the serial number and they may pass your contact info along to the last registered owner.

You're right. It's normal privacy laws. They can't give some 'random' person someone else's contact info. I"m not even sure if they'd give it to the police without some sort of supoena or court order or official document. The most apple MAY do is send the registered owner an e-mail....maybe, eventually after they talk to their supervisor and their supervisor (unless they happen to have an existing protocol)

If you can't get into the contacts you can run a 'i found' ad and have the owner identify its characteristics, home screen, etc. HOnestly, hand it over to the cab company and it's gone. It'll go to a pawn shop or such. Not all taxi companies are disreputable, far from it, but I also know that many 'left in cab' items never make it to the company's lost and found.

After handling this same issue for a customer, sadly I have to say that there is not a procedure in place other than not to give out personal information and not be of much help at all. The pe

Old fashioned way of kindness falls in place here.... Report it found at the local police station, also maybe put an ad out in your local newspaper and their website. If no reply after maybe 30 days, I guess you have a new locked iPad.
