how to create a mobile version of iWeb

I need to convert my iWeb website to a mobile version, what is the easiest way to do this? What software or program should I use? I was told that creating a Wordpress Page is the simplest way

iWeb '08, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

Roddy McKay had developed a mobile site. Adaptive Website Design for Mobile Devices - iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry, Cell Phones and Personal Computer

I believe he used Rage WebSite Design to create it. A key to the site is this line of code:

<meta name="viewport" content="user-scalable=0, width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, minimum-scale=1.0" />

You might be able to also use Flux to create the site. Roddy could tell us. It's largly CSS dependent.

Mobile websites use adaptive design. This means that the page width adjusts to the width of the screen of the visitors device.

They also need finger size buttons for navigation, special inputs for forms, finger swiping slideshows etc.

iWeb, like all template based eidtors, is not capable of creating this type of website.

Here are some example designs....

All of these could be created using an application like Flux which, by the way, is being offered at a very reasonable $39.99 by Smith Micro at the moment.

Roddy,

I'm losing my mind!!! I looked at Flux, but nowhere in the specs does it say that your website will be viewable on mobile devies. I want to be unfallably certain before I purchase this software that my website will be able to be viewed on mobile devices. At the moment my iWeb site www.crusadeforjustice.com is not viewable on my iphone, when I try to visit the site it keeps saying 'no such site exists'. On the Iphone mobile safari it puts a (m.) in front the url. Please help!!!!!

Its not the sofware that makes it viewable on iPhone - its the design.

Enter the URL like this to get your site to appear on iPhone...

crusadeforjustice.com

If you have a separate version of your site that is designed for smart phones and other portable devices, you would set up a sub domain with a URL like...

mobile.crusadeforjustice.com

I have no idea why mobile Safari is adding the m. to your URL as I have never seen this happen before.

Thanks for your patience and assistance.

I have been putting crusadeforjustice.com and my iPod touch and my friend's iPhone 4 and other friends' blackberry's all say that the site doesn't exist. My friend downloaded iCab for his iPhone 4 and he was able to get it to work. iCab allows you to change the browser ID to whatever you want, such as Safari for Mac (mobile version and non mobile version), Firefox, IE, etc... He changed it to Safari Mac and the site displays just as your picture illustrates. Then he changed it back to Safari Mobile and that's when the error message appears. But it seems you cannot change the browser id on the default Safari Mobile app, which is what most people use. So I gather Safari Mobile will attempt to load a mobile version of any given site? It's odd... Will recreating the site usiing Flux help solve this problem?

Any other ideas or thoughts?

Many thanks...

Could it be that the server where your files are hosted is running a browser sniffing script? Or, perhaps, somebody has added something like this to the .htaccess file...

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} iPhone

RewriteRule .* http://mobile.domain-name.com/ [R]

The above is what you could do (but wouldn't if you had any sense) if you wanted iphone users to be directed to another version of your site.

Ask tech support at your hosting service and explain the problem to them to see if something like this is in place in your hosting account.
