Q: What Operating system can I use.

Hi,  I have a Power Book G4 - Tiger 10.4.11  (not Intel)

What is the most up to date operating system I can get for my laptop?  And if so;

will my iPhone 4S work on it?

and the latest iTunes 10.5. ?

Thank you

Bernie

    The max OS for PowerPC Macs is Leopard 10.5.x. Also to use Apple iDevices you need Leopard & iTunes version 10.5.

    Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).

    If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:

    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD

    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD

    MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

    MB022Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (5-user family pack)

    After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update

    The DVD should look like this

    Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

    Tom,  Thank you so much for your reply to my request for help.  It answers everything perfectly and in detail.  Your a gem and I might like to ask you something again in the future, so I hope you wont mind; always good to have an expert at hand.  The details you gave me enables me to purchase exactly what I need to make my new iPhone 4S communicate with the latest iTunes and to backup on my old laptop.  Its amazing how long I have had my Power Book G4 and it is working wonderfully; Well done Apple.  I believe its money worth spent to up date my operating system to the maximum.

    Thanks again Tom.

    Regards
